Pioneer Recipe: Porridge
Here's a practical and classic pioneer recipe for cooked cereal.
Porridge
For one serving:
¾ cup water or milk
¼ cup meal (whole wheat flour or corn meal)
¼ tsp. salt
Stir often while heating. When it is thickened and starts to bubble, it is done. Delicious as a hot cereal; can be used with a dab of butter and/or pepper, or with sugar or honey; may cook with raisins for variation.
Notes: I would imagine you'd bring the water to boiling first and then add the meal. Maybe the "delicious" part depends on what you're used to eating for breakfast and how hungry you are!
