Grandma Glade's Waffles

Several years ago we decided to have waffles for dinner on Fast Sundays.  It's a simple meal to make and we all look forward to them.  Sometimes we have waffles and maple syrup.  Other times we top them with cream and fruit syrup, freezer strawberry jam, or fresh fruit.
Grandma Glade's Waffles (Heritage Recipe)
1 cup flour (white or whole wheat)
1 Tb. sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1 egg, beaten
3 Tb. butter, melted, or oil
¾ to 1 cup milk to make good batter

Sift dry ingredients together. Add milk and beaten egg. Add melted butter. The thinner the batter, the crisper the waffle. Bake in waffle iron. Top with fresh fruit or jam and cream for a special treat. Makes 2 or 3 large waffles.

To keep waffles hot until ready to eat, put a cooling rack into a jelly roll pan and put it in a 200° oven. As the waffles finish, place them on the rack in the oven to stay warm and crisp until the meal is ready. From Grandma Lucile Glade.
