Chocolate Fondue {Chocolate Dipping Sauce}

Chocolate Fondue is always a popular treat for a family get-together or party--especially because you can pair chocolate with other favorite fruits or sweets!  It might be messy for kids, but they love it!
Chocolate Fondue
1/2 - 3/4 cup whipping cream (or evaporated milk)
2 cups chocolate chips or shaved chocolate--semi-sweet, milk chocolate, bittersweet, or a combination

Heat the cream in a small saucepan over medium heat--stir and watch it carefully.  When small bubbles appear and it begins to gently boil remove from heat and add the chocolate.  Wisk to combine the two.  Serve from that pot or transfer to a fondue pot.

You can place your favorite treats on a plate and drizzle the chocolate over the top or use skewers or forks to hold your dipping treats to dip into the chocolate.

If the chocolate begins to thicken add a small amount of cream or reheat slightly.

Ideas for dipping treats:
small cubes of cake
pretzels
marshmallows
strawberries
bananas
orange sections
many other kinds of fruit
it's not as fun as dipping--but plating it up is a bit easier for kids

Tiffany's Notes: I've made this a couple of times--you might favor a different ratio of cream to chocolate.  This time I had about a cup of cream and it ended up that 3 cups of chocolate chips was the right proportion.  I like milk chocolate so we did 1 cup of semi-sweet and 2 cups of milk-chocolate chips.

For a recipe source I referred to one recipe from the Food Network and another from Simply Recipes.  Many of you will realize that Chocolate Fondue is essentially a variation of a warm Chocolate Ganache. :)
