Chocolate Buttercream Frosting
6 Tb. butter or margarine, softened
2 2/3 cups powdered sugar
½ cup cocoa
1/3 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Beat butter. Add powdered sugar and cocoa alternately with milk; beat to spreading consistency. Add more or less milk as needed. Blend in vanilla.
Tiffany's Notes: I believe this recipe is originally from Hershey's. I rarely do only 2 2/3 cups of powdered sugar. For this cake I did about 3 cups. I usually use 1/2 cup of butter or margarine and increase the powdered sugar to about 5 cups. Of course that means the milk needs to increase as well.
While growing up we would rarely measure when we made frosting. My mom taught us to put a few tablespoons of butter in the bowl, beat it, and then add the other ingredients until it looked right.
