Pulled Pork Sandwiches

Pulled Pork Sandwiches
3 lbs. boneless pork loin or boneless pork chops (about 6 thick chops)
1 package McCormick slow cooker “pulled pork” seasoning or 1.5 oz. (about 2 Tb.) dry BBQ seasoning
½ cup ketchup
½ cup brown sugar
1/3 cup cider vinegar

Place pork in a greased slow cooker. Mix seasoning, ketchup, brown sugar, and cider vinegar. Pour mixture over pork and cook about 8 hours on low or 4 hours on high. After the meat is cooked, pull out any fat that hadn’t already been cut off the meat previously. Shred the meat using two forks. Mix back in with the sauce, adding about ½-1 cup of water if necessary. Serve on buns. You can add extra BBQ sauce, if desired. You will get at least five servings per pound of meat.

Tiffany's Note: I originally had this at a family get together.  When my sister shared the recipe I was happy to hear that it was as easy as buying a package of seasoning and pulling out my crock pot.  The seasoning mix is great!  I really like it much better than pork cooked with bottled BBQ sauce (which is still a good option).

This is a great meal for a large gathering. It is a big favorite with my picky eaters!

  1. We actually make this often and store half in the freezer for a dinner later. We always use bottled BBQ sauce and have rave reviews. So simple, fast and easy! Just the meet and the bottle of sauce! Maybe it depends on the quality of sauce you use. We often get name brand on sale or with coupons.

I made these for a baby shower once but used mini buns that I toasted.

  2. You're right! It is a great main dish to last several meals (if you're not feeding a large group!). We usually have this for two dinners in a row and freeze a portion for another meal. It reheats easily and freezes easily.

I've also added this meat to a quesadilla (place the meat with cheese between two tortillas and heat on a griddle).

  3. Sounds great! One variation that a friend recommended to me is using a bottle of liquid smoke. That makes a very simple recipe, just combine the pork and the smoke in the crockpot. You can find the smoke in the same grocery aisle as the BBQ sauce. We add BBQ sauce after it is all cooked.
